Das Unterrichtsgespräch über Skype unterscheidet sich nicht von dem des klassischen Nachhilfe-Unterrichts vor Ort. Durch eine Live-Bildschirm-Übertragung (sog. screen sharing) ist schriftliches Arbeiten ebenfalls uneingeschränkt möglich.

Der mathematische Teil des GMAT lässt sich grob in folgende Kategorien (topics) einteilen:

Es gibt zwei Typen von Fragen
- problem solving (es muss ein Ergebnis ausgerechnet werden)
- data sufficiency (es muss nur festgestellt werden, ob die Informationen ausreichen um die Frage zu beantworten)
Das GMAT-Problem oder die Renaissance des Kopfrechnens
Woran liegt es, dass sich so viele mit der GMAT-Mathematik schwer tun?
Nun, für Testteilnehmer, deren Muttersprache nicht Englisch ist, ergibt sich als erste Hürde die Notwendigkeit, eine Vielzahl mathematischer Fachbegriffe in englischer Sprache zu beherrschen.
Und dann der enorme Zeitdruck: In 75 min müssen 37 multiple-choice-Aufgaben gelöst werden, d. h. für jede Aufgabe hat man im Mittel nur ca. 2 min Zeit.
Je mehr Aufgaben richtig gelöst werden, umso höher wird der Schwierigkeitsgrad der Aufgaben im Laufe des Tests und umso höher ist der Zeitaufwand je Aufgabe, so dass jemand, der ein gutes Testergebnis erzielen will, zwangsläufig einen Großteil der Aufgaben in deutlich unter 2 min bewältigen muss.
Ein cleveres Zeitmanagement ist daher unabdingbar für den GMAT-Erfolg, ebenso wie der Mut zur Lücke: Kommt einem eine Aufgabe allzu 'spanisch' vor, dann macht es mehr Sinn, sich für eine beliebige Antwortmöglichkeit zu entscheiden und zügig zur nächsten Aufgabe überzugehen, als zu riskieren, Zeit zu verschwenden ohne eine echte Chance zu haben, auf die richtige Lösung zu kommen.
Im Nachhilfe-Alltag der GMAT-Vorbereitung erleben Tugenden wie Auswendiglernen, Kopfrechnen oder logisches Denken eine Renaissance, kommen diese doch im Zeitalter von Taschenrechnern und Formelsammlungen im heutigen Schulunterricht oftmals viel zu kurz.

Es wurden Kosten für Vorbereitungen in Rechnung gestellt, welche nie stattgefunden haben. Der Unterricht verlief sehr schleppend. Leider kann sich dieser Nachhilfelehrer trotz mehrfacher Hinweise so gut wie gar nicht auf die Bedürfnisse und individuellen Lernfortschritte seiner Schüler einlassen, da er sich vermutlich für den schlausten Menschen auf der Erde hält.
Nach der Entscheidung den Nachhilfelehrer zu wechseln, wurde mir in einer absolut albernen und respektlosen Email mit dem Anwalt gedroht. Ich sollte eine Zahlung zu leisten, welche zu keiner Zeit gerechtfertigt war, da der Nachhilfelehrer auf einmal Geld für Vorbereitungen verlangte, die er jedoch nie gemacht hatte.
Der Mann legt eine äußerst unprofessionelle Vorgehensweise an den Tag und ich kann nur jedem raten sich jemand anderen zu suchen. - Herr K. ist ein sehr kompetenter Lehrer der mir geholfen hat einige Grundlagen der Tragwerkslehre zu verstehen. - Für das Fach Operations Research fanden wir keine Basis, den Stoff für die anstehende Klausur durchzuarbeiten.

Dadurch habe ich Aufgaben und Zusammenhänge verstanden bei denen ich in den Vorlesungen und Seminaren zuvor nur Fragezeichen vor Augen hatte.
Ich war anfangs skeptisch was die Online-Nachhilfe angeht, was sich jedoch schnell als unbegründet rausstellte. Die Termine über Skype liefen problemlos und durch Bildschirmübertragung konnten, wenn notwendig, Dinge veranschaulicht werden.
Die Terminfindung war problemlos (2-3 Termine á 1-2 Stunden die Woche) und flexibel durch einen monatlichen Terminplan geregelt.
Alles in allem kann ich mich nur bedanken! Herr K. hat mich sehr unterstützt und mir dazu verholfen, dass ich meine Prüfung letzten Endes bestanden habe!
